About Codelaro
Codelaro is a free place to learn to code from nothing. It covers eight tracks — HTML, CSS,
JavaScript, Python, Lua, the Linux command line, Git version control and SQL databases — with
short lessons that each end in code you type and run yourself. Python and Lua run through real
interpreters written in JavaScript and executed inside this page. The terminal is a simulated
Linux filesystem, so you can practise commands like ls, cd,
grep and git commit without touching your own computer.
What each track covers
- HTML — page structure, headings, links, images, lists and semantic layout.
- CSS — selectors, colour, typography, the box model, flexbox and responsive design.
- JavaScript — variables, types, conditionals, loops, functions, arrays, objects and the DOM.
- Python — printing, f-strings, conditionals, loops, lists, dictionaries and functions.
- Lua — syntax, string handling, tables, loops and functions, for games such as Roblox.
- Linux — navigation, files, searching with grep, pipes, permissions and processes.
- Git — commits, history, diffs, branches, merging and working with remotes.
- SQL — SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY, LIMIT, grouping and aggregates, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE.
